2016 Estate Verdelho Tasting Notes

Originally from Portugal, Verdelho is a variety perfectly suited to our vineyard. For a balanced flavor profile, fruit was picked at Baume 13.8 and 14. Grapes gentle pressed to avoid any bitterness from skins. This has resulted in a wine of complex fruit driven flavours, with a lovely sugar/acid balance, and lower alcohol level. ‘It’s fresh, crisp and very dry, yet with full fruit flavours that flood the mouth – like biting into cool grapes on a hot summer’s day. Lovely lifted musky aromas are followed by hints of cumquat and lycee on the palate. This Verdelho’s delicate flavours will enhance all seafoods, white meats and vegan dishes. Great with Asian-infused food as it complements the spices beautifully. Enjoy it as an aperitif, or over those long, lazy January lunches.  Alc/Vol: 13.1% Drink now to 2019.

2016 Estate Shiraz Tasting Notes

This fine, elegant 2016 Shiraz is an excellent expression of our terroir. You’ll find fragrant aromas of plum and cherry, with flavours of blueberry fruit and a hint of cloves and aniseed. This is followed by supple tannins and a bright aromatic finish – and you may taste the wonderful granitic character the Ranges’ ancient rhyodacite soils coming through! Good acidity gives the fruit that lovely juicy character.

The Shiraz is crushed into a small open tub fermented and immediately inoculated with a neutral yeast strain. Tubs are hand plunged during fermentation and the wine left on skins for 15 days. Natural malolactic fermentation occurs in the barrel after pressing and wine remains on the lees for some 16 months, in French oak of which 30% is new French oak. A minimal pad filtration is performed on the way to bottling. Alcohol 14.7% Cellar Up to 15 years.
